FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What distinguishes ALK branding irons from others?
Made in Germany is the key. Our branding irons are 100% made in Germany. They heat up quickly and always deliver sufficient power – even at
frequent use. All materials used are also extremely durable and provide reliable quality over a long period of time. Made in Germany.
How do I proceed if I want to order a branding stamp with engraving?
First, you must decide how large the motif you want to brand should appear as a branding imprint on your workpiece or surface.
The size can depend, for example, on the area available for the stamp impression.
Once you have determined the size, look for it in our online shop at
https://mein-brennstempel.de/brennstempel/brennstempel-inkl.-gravur/ to select the appropriate branding iron.
For example, if you want to brand a motif measuring 65x32mm, you need the ALK4N with 300Watt and an engraved burning plate 70x35mm:
https://mein-brennstempel.de/brennstempel/brennstempel-inkl.-gravur/169/original-alk4n-70mm-x-35mm-inkl.-gravur?c=28#59ed9258aafbe5eed8ea2c86e808d90a .
Then upload your design using the “Logo Upload” option. Before doing so, you must confirm that your data is correct and that you have read the “Specifications for supplied data” at https://mein-brennstempel.de/gravuranforderungen .
You can use the scaling to slightly adjust the size of your motif and then apply the configuration. At the end, you will see an animated preview of the burning result, which you can then add to your shopping cart.
From there you can proceed to the payment process with PayPal or by prepayment to our bank details and to deposit your billing and delivery address.
After successfully placing your order, you will receive an order confirmation from our online shop.
As soon as we have received your payment, you will also receive an order confirmation with all items, which also shows your expected delivery date.
How is a branding iron constructed?
Our branding irons are made of

I already have a branding iron from you. Can I order a new branding plate with engraving and use it myself?

If you would like to use a new burning plate on the HLP series and S series models, we recommend that you send us your branding iron so that our specialist staff can replace the burning plate.
I uploaded my logo and don't see anything in the preview!
There may be colored elements in your motif. These are not recognized by our upload software. Therefore, please only upload black and white files.
Which file formats are suitable for uploading engraving templates?
The following file formats are possible: .tif, eps, .jpg/.jpeg, .gif, .png, .pdf
Will you check my engraving template for feasibility before engraving?
We will only check your motif for feasibility if you order our data check.
If your order does not include a data check, your engraving template will be transferred directly to the engraving machine without checking.
How do I know if my design is suitable for a branding stamp?
You can check the feasibility of your design yourself by looking at our engraving requirements. All the information you need to check is available there.
I'm not sure if my design is suitable for engraving or branding. Can you please take a look at it in advance?
We're happy to do that! Please order our data check when you order your branding stamp. We will then check your file for feasibility for a branding stamp and send you a proof. Unfortunately, we cannot carry out a check without an order.
My design is only 32x15mm. Can you engrave it on a 70x35mm burning plate?
Since the heat from the branding iron is only transferred to the surface via the raised surface of the branding plate (in this case 32x15mm), the heating elements built into the branding iron would overheat. We therefore always recommend choosing a branding plate that matches the size of the motif.
In this case, a 35x20mm burning plate including engraving must be ordered.
Why does the motif or engraving template have to fill the available area of the firing plate as much as possible?
The heat from the branding iron is transferred to the surface exclusively via the raised surface of the branding plate. This raised surface is created by engraving the motif on the branding plate. If the raised surface of the motif is significantly smaller than the branding plate, the branding plate becomes increasingly hotter because it cannot release its heat during the branding process. This causes the heating elements built into the branding iron to overheat and become damaged.
How hot does the branding iron get?
All of our devices reach a temperature of around 450 degrees Celsius. This is the optimal temperature for branding wood.
Since we offer many different branding irons and branding plates in different sizes, the devices each have different outputs (watts) to reach the temperature of 450 degrees Celsius.
For example, an ALK1N with a 50x15mm burner plate only needs 150 watts to reach 450 degrees, while an S210 with a 200x100mm burner plate needs 1,400 watts.
Can I also brand leather with the branding iron?
Yes, this works very well and is used by many of our customers. However, for many types of leather, the normal temperature of the branding iron of 450 degrees Celsius is too high. Therefore, a changeover regulator must be inserted to reduce the temperature.
Can I also brand plastic with the branding iron?
Yes, this works very well and is used by many of our customers. However, for many types of plastic, the normal temperature of the branding iron of 450 degrees Celsius is too high. Therefore, a changeover regulator must be inserted to reduce the temperature.
Can I also brand cardboard, paper and paper with the branding iron?
Yes, this works very well and is used by many of our customers. However, for many types of cardboard and paper, the normal temperature of the branding iron of 450 degrees Celsius is too high. Therefore, a changeover regulator must be inserted to reduce the temperature.
Can I also brand food with the branding iron?
We strongly advise against branding food, as our branding plates contain a small amount of lead. This is toxic and must not come into contact with food.
Which materials can I brand stamp?
Wood, bamboo, leather, all types of plastic, cork, cardboard, paper…
We have also used or tested our branding irons on candles, fire hoses, MDF, felt, fabric, etc.
The temperature of my branding iron is too high. Can I reduce the temperature?
Since our devices do not have a built-in temperature control, you will need our changeover controller to reduce the temperature.
What do I do to make the stamp cool down quickly?
Please NEVER use WATER to cool down the device! Our products contain electrical material that can be damaged if it comes into contact with water.
Many of our customers use stones or iron parts to place the stamps, which can reach temperatures of up to 450°C.
Do you also carry out test branding?
Yes, we carry out test branding on behalf of customers. These are charged according to the effort involved and have a delivery time of approximately 4-6 working days. In return, you will receive photos of the tests and we will send you back the workpiece provided to us with the test branding. Please contact us about this at info@alk-tools.com .
How long is the delivery time for a branding stamp including engraving?
The delivery time for a branding stamp including engraving is approximately 5-6 working days. In times of increased order intake, it can take a little longer. And when there is not so much going on, it goes faster...;-)
Can I also use a smaller burning plate in my ALK branding iron? For example, a 50x15mm burning plate from the ALK1N/150W in an ALK4N/300W branding iron?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. The 50x15mm burner plate is too small for the ALK4N and would overheat. A 50x15mm burner plate is only suitable for the ALK1N with 150 watts and would overheat in the ALK4N with 300 watts. This can damage the heating elements in the branding iron or cause them to fail completely. In addition, the ALK burner plates have different sized mounting pins, so that small burner plates do not fit into larger mountings (and vice versa).
